Bug Description

I did a fresh install and can't connect from Windows 10 to Ubuntu 20.04 even though the smb.conf claims it is clean and the server launches and says ready for connections.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

It looks like you have issued a reinstall

Start-Date: 2020-08-24 21:51:27
Commandline: apt install --reinstall samba-libs samba-common samba-common-bin samba-dsdb-modules
Requested-By: protektor (1000)
Reinstall: samba-dsdb-modules:amd64 (2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.4), samba-libs:amd64 (2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.4), samba-common:amd64 (2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.4), samba-common-bin:amd64 (2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.4)

and the script asks you to take manual actions:

Setting up samba-common (2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.4) ...
Not replacing deleted config file /etc/samba/smb.conf
Install/upgrade will fail. To recover, please try:
 sudo cp /usr/share/samba/smb.conf /etc/samba/smb.conf
 sudo dpkg --configure -a
Setting up samba-common-bin (2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.4) ...

Have you done it ? It looks like a failure is expected if you did not.

Since there is not enough information in your report to begin triage or to differentiate between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as "Incomplete". We would be grateful if you would: provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to "New".
