Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

Could you please provide more information about your setup? Could you share your anonymized config file? Without more information I am not able to reproduce the bug to act on it.

Since there is not enough information in your report to begin triage or to
differentiate between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I
am marking this bug as "Incomplete". We would be grateful if you would:
provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you
believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your
system, and then change the bug status back to "New".

For local configuration issues, you can find assistance here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Changed in openvpn (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

Dear Lucas,
Thank you so much for getting back to me. I really appreciate it.
As far as the config file, what directory would it be in and what is the
name of the config file? That way I know which file I can send.
Thanks for your help.
Best,

Could you take a screenshot of the interface you are using and give some details on the configuration you are using?

There are some upstream report like https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/439 but it usually depends of the settings and the UI expectations

Also could you try adding it with nm-connection-editor?

Hi Sebastien,
Thank you for your help.
I attach a screenshot.
Authentication type is "Password". I do not show my actual user name. For
Password I selected "Ask for this password every time." For CA certificate
I selected "None",
In Ubuntu 20.04 for vpn setup the "Add" button is greyed out and I cannot
select it after inputting all the settings. For Ubuntu 18.04 there were no
issues setting up a VPN.
I will try nm-connection-editor.
Thanks.

Hi Sebastion,
I tried setting up the vpn with nm-connection-editor and still was not able
to add a vpn. This time the "Save" button was greyed out. In the terminal
it gave an error message "Cannot save connection due to error: Invalid
setting VPN: ca: No certificate set." In Ubuntu 18.04 I was able to
connect to vpn by setting the certificate to none. But in 20.04, this is
not the case. Is this the issue? I also attach a screenshot.
Thank you for your help.

Thanks, the details are useful so the issue is that the dialog doesn't allow to save a vpn password configuration without certificate, which is reported upstream on https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/439

affects: openvpn (Ubuntu) → gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
Changed in gnome-control-center (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: Incomplete → Triaged
summary: - OpenVPN client cannot be added in Networks in Ubuntu 20.04
+ Cannot save VPN configuration without CA certificate when using password
