Bug Description

Hi, I have a desktop pc running the new Mate 18.04
My specs are i5 predecessor, 16gb ram and a 250 gb SSD.
My graphics card is a 620 nvidea gforce.
It doesn't matter which compositor I use, or whether I use the open source driver or the Nvidea I am still getting a graphical overlay of a clock over my Thunderbird email program.
Any ideas?

Attachment below.

Regards
Gaham

Seeing similar weirdness with strange trucks and money symbols over my shopping type emails. Clearly some rendering has gone badly awry where the masking and redrawing is not behaving as it should.

After talking to the folks in the Ubuntu Podcast Telegram channel I installed:

fonts-symbola

and it sorted the problem out.

Hi,

I see the same behaviour on my wife's laptop.

I'll attach all files as a 7z zip which contains:

The mail in question (see Email: "Fwd: 🛄 Danke! Ihre Buchung ist bestätigt: Landhotel Peters.eml.asc").

It seems that the subject of the Email has an icon which goes wild in thunderbird's mail view (see Screenshot: Selection_Overlay.png).

In my laptop's (Ubuntu 18.04) Thunderbird client it shows proper (see screenshot: Selection_101.png).

Here are some additional info's:
My computer (where the icon shows correct):
OS: Ubuntu 18.04
Thunderbird: 52.7.0 (64-Bit)

My wife's computer (shows the buggy overlay):
OS: Ubuntu Mate 18.04
Thunderbird: 52.7.0 (64-Bit)
Sysinfo: see screenshot - gllcfbhlidfjiaml.png

Greetings
Michael

Reading "Simon Hawke (simonjhawke)"s description I followed this advice and installed the font.

The icon dissapeared, but was simply replced with 'some' character "🛄". This solves the issue with the ugly overlay, but the displayed character is not correct.

This is just a minor bug now to me, but if you are interested in solving this in a proper way maybe my attachments from the previous post can help.

Greetings
Michael
