Test Case
1. Attach an external monitor to a laptop and set the output to external display only
2. Suspend the laptop
3. Detach the external monitor
4. Resume the laptop

Actual Result
The system didn't resume and this crash was present

Forgot to add, #6 is about this scenario https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1722000 from a duplicated bug.

I can now change scaling to 200% on an external monitor and gnome shell doesn't crash.

Could you check if the patch attached to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=789070 fixes the issue?
