Bug Description

When a storage device formatted with exfat is automatically mounted on a system it is mounted with a fuse filesystem instead of a native, kernel filesystem. The kernel now has support for exfat.

Ubuntu Kernel Bot (ubuntu-kernel-bot) wrote : Missing required logs.

This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem. While running an Ubuntu kernel (not a mainline or third-party kernel) please enter the following command in a terminal window:

apport-collect 1862028

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change the bug status to 'Confirmed'.

This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the Ubuntu Kernel Team.

Adding udisks2, as I think this is an issue of what userspace is choosing to use to mount the filesystem rather than a kernel issue.

Thank you for your bug report, did you install exfat-fuse (we don't install it by default)? Does it work better if you uninstall it

If that's the issue we should probably remove that package for upgraders, unless there is still a valid reason someone might prefer the fuse implementation?

Sorry, I have updated the seeds but failed update the ubuntukylin-meta package since the ./update script always stuck at Decompressing Packages.xz file, :(

I will upload the new version of ubuntukylin-meta which dropped exfat-fuse once it succeeds.

I don't think there's anything to fix in udisks2 here, since it's just using the filesystems that are available; invalidating the task.

Perhaps you're arguing for exfat-fuse to be removed from the archive? See comment #3.

Seth Forshee (sforshee) wrote :

@laney: Shouldn't udisks2 prefer in-kernel filesystem support if available, then fallback to a fuse driver? We also have a fuseext2 package, but if I have that installed I would still expect an ext2 formatted thumb drive to be mounted using the kernel's driver when I insert it rather than the fuse driver.

I believe if got the exfat-fuse filesystem when I installed exfat-tools in order to mkexfatfs.

If I take the exfat flashdrive to a 20.04 system that does not have exfat-utils/exfat-fuse on it, it works exactly as I expect and mounts as an exfat filesystem.
