Bug Description

The current shutdown prompt solves this use case problem:
1. A user accidentally clicks the Shut Down button in the system menu and needs a way to cancel shutdown.

It would be nice if it solved this problem too:
2. A user clicks Shut Down and expects the computer to do just that without further input.

A user report of that scenario can be found at https://lists.launchpad.net/unity-design/msg08248.html

GNOME Shell has a very nice feature where after selecting Power Off in the user menu, the confirm dialog starts a 60-second countdown which fixes the problem.

If memory serves me right, this actually used to be a feature. Perhaps this is a regression?

Closing this bug as invalid, because when the new shutdown dialogues are implemented (see https://docs.google.com/a/canonical.com/document/d/1ILTJDiDCd25Npt2AmgzF8aOnZZECxTfM0hvsbWT2BxA/edit ) the user will always be presented with a second conformation step after clicking on the indicator shutdown option (and there will be no 60 second countdown).

Since that comment doesn't actually address the original request, here's an explanation of why the 60-second countdown is a bad idea. <https://lists.launchpad.net/unity-design/msg08368.html> In brief, the countdown might be followed by other confirmation alerts, so you can't rely on it to shut down without further input. The biggest step towards fixing that would be to implement session saving, but no-one is organized enough to do that, and it wouldn't entirely solve this particular problem anyway.
