Bug Description

The "Our Star Apps" title area takes up nearly 50% of the main page in the default size of the Software Center app. This is a utter waste of precious real estate. The text could be resized to half of it's current size and nearly all of the main page could be presented w/o a scroll.

I concur. The "Star Apps" feature may be nice, but not so nice that it takes up a quarter of the screen. A simple icon should do.

Halving the current size wouldn't allow nearly enough space for interesting promotions. The height of the current area is already 9% less than the equivalent in the Chrome Web store, 17% less than in the Android Market, and 33% less than in the Mac App Store -- so if it is "out of proportion" at all, it is because it is too small, not too large. And presenting the home screen without scrolling is not a goal: with only eight "What's New" items and zero "Recommended For You" items, it is already much shorter than it should be. For each of those reasons, this report is invalid.

In fairness, calling it the "title area" reveals that this is another example of the confusion caused by banners still not being available on the server. Once they are, hardly anyone will see "Our star apps" in the first place, and it will be more obvious to testers why the area exists.
