Bug Description

All Xubuntu images dated 2011-06-10 - when logging into the desktop, a choice of xubuntu or xfce is given. Both choices result in an Xfce-session instead of Xubuntu-session. This occurs on both 32bit and 64bit live desktops, as well as all installations performed. After installing Xubuntu, the Xubuntu-session does not run.

It's because the script for the xubuntu session relies on a special ubuntu-patched feature from gdm (i.e. XDG_CONFIG_DIRS already set correctly).

You can try to edit /usr/share/xubuntu/session.sh, and add at the beginning (before the XDG_DATA_DIRS change):

if [ -z "$XDG_CONFIG_DIRS" ]; then
  XDG_CONFIG_DIRS="/etc/xdg/xdg-xubuntu"
  export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS
fi

Xfce should then use the xubuntu settings in the xubuntu session.

I did attempt the workaround. In VirtualBox, it still logs me into a Xfce-session. On hardware, Intel Celeron 1.73GHz, 64bit; 1GB RAM; Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Video, it bounces me right back to the LightDM login screen. I got locked into a loop.

I think it's fixed now. Could you confirm? Thanks.

As of 2011-06-21, all images are allowing a Xubuntu session with the exception of the live desktop. Since the live environment won' t start without using startx, we don't get any session at this time. When startx is run, lightdm auto-logs the user in, but starts xfce. logging out results in a bunch of error messages and the text prompt again. The user can not choose a session at this time.

Marking fixed-released since this is no longer an issue on the images.
