Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

When you're asked to type your city on timezone selections screen, the keyboad layout is english only, so most names cannot be typed. When you proceed to next step to select keyboard and then back, key map becomes messed up and still cannot be used to type city in.

Change the keyboard selection before timezones as is done in normal operating systems.

<http://goo.gl/YwIcT>: "The “Keyboard layout” screen should appear immediately before whichever is the first keyboard-requiring step. This might be, for example, “Connect to the Internet”, “Allocate disk space”, or “Where are you”."

<https://goo.gl/S4P4zo>: "“Where are you?” - This is a keyboard-requiring step, because you may need to type a location."

It may save time to fix this bug at the same time as bug 511956, bug 871752, and bug 1047384.

Can you elaborate on "key map becomes fucked up"? Could you provide a screenshot of this behavior?

The keyboard alterates layout for each other letter, so if 'ru' keyboard selected, back on the TZ screen it will output "jоjоjоjоjоj" if type 'J' in row; same for rest of letters.

Timezone selection before setting up the keyboard layout is an issue, especially considering that the dialog asks the user to type in their location.

Can't confirm the second part (messed up keyboard), though.

I've just come across this when trying to install Lubuntu 11.04.

Please move the keyboard layout screen before the timezone screen.
Easy solution and it's common sense that you should have the opportunity to set your keyboard layout before being asked to use it.

The current database we use can be queried online:

http://geoname-lookup.ubuntu.com/?query=Моссква
http://geoname-lookup.ubuntu.com/?query=Moscow

As you can see our database does not have names in localised languages, simply because we don't have suсh a database.

The source of the currently used locations comes from:
http://www.geonames.org

If anybody knows of a better locations/timezone databases, please let us know.

This bug is a bigger problem when one boot into e.g. Russian locale, as there is no way to switch back to English/Latin layout to type the geoname location.
